Job Summary

As a Digital Operation Specialist within the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), you will play a critical role in national and international criminal investigations by supporting IT forensics. Your day-to-day responsibilities involve the conception, programming, and administration of large-scale forensic IT systems. You will manage complex Linux and Windows environments, virtualization platforms, and network infrastructures (IPv4/IPv6, VPN, Firewalls). A key part of the role includes developing innovative software and hardware solutions to secure and analyze digital evidence. This position is unique as it combines high-level systems engineering with public safety, offering the opportunity for civil servant status (Verbeamtung). Candidates must be prepared for occasional travel and on-call duties to support police operations. The role requires a high level of responsibility, including handling sensitive data and undergoing a high-level security clearance.

Required Skills

Education

University degree (Bachelor or Diploma) in Computer Science or a STEM field with an IT component; or equivalent professional IT training/experience.

Experience

  • Professional experience in IT systems engineering and infrastructure administration
  • 3 years of professional IT experience required if applying with a vocational IT qualification
  • 6 years of professional IT experience required if applying with a non-IT vocational qualification
  • Experience in managing complex network components including routing and hardware administration
  • Experience in implementing IT security policies and investigating security incidents
