Job Summary

This PhD position at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) offers a unique opportunity to join the DFG-funded research group FOR 5228 'Syntophagy'. Working within the Institute for Neuroimmunology and Multiple Sklerosis (INIMS), the successful candidate will investigate molecular neurobiological mechanisms and autophagy functions in healthy and inflamed neurons using MS mouse models. Day-to-day responsibilities include performing molecular cloning, cell culture, and high-resolution super-resolution microscopy, alongside collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of immunologists and bioinformaticians. The role is integrated into a structured graduate school program providing international exposure and professional development. This position is ideal for researchers looking to bridge the gap between basic cell biology and translational medicine in a world-class clinical research environment. The contract is initially limited to four years at 65% of standard working hours.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree or Diploma in Biology, Biomedicine, Biochemistry, or a related field of Life Sciences.

Experience

  • Practical experience in basic cell biology, molecular biology, and microscopy
  • Experience with biochemical methods and assays
  • Professional experience in a research environment, preferably in neurobiology or molecular research
  • Experience in handling experimental animals (FELASA-B certificate) is preferred
  • Experience in bioinformatics (e.g., R) is an advantage
