Job Summary

This role is based at the Thünen Institute in Braunschweig and focuses on analyzing the European Commission's legislative proposals for the 2028-2034 Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF). As a Research Associate, you will evaluate the fundamental system changes proposed for EU funding, specifically focusing on the transition toward the National and Regional Partnership Fund (NRPF) and its impact on rural development policy. Your day-to-day work involves document analysis of EU regulations, descriptive data evaluation of cohesion funds, and conducting expert interviews at national and EU levels. This position is ideal for professionals who enjoy bridging the gap between scientific research and political decision-making. You will work within an interdisciplinary team to derive science-based policy recommendations for the German federal government. Required Skills

Education

Master's degree (M.A., M.Sc., or University Diploma) in Economics, Administrative Sciences, European Studies, or a comparable discipline. A PhD is considered an advantage.

Experience

  • Professional experience in analyzing laws, regulations, and directives at the EU and national levels
  • Experience in analyzing national and European funding databases is preferred
  • Experience in semi-quantitative impact assessment of legal texts is an advantage
  • Knowledge of rural development funding policy and governance structures in Germany is preferred
  • Previous professional experience in a relevant field is an advantage
  • Experience in scientific publication and presentation of research results
