Job Summary
As a Biological Technical Assistant at the Thünen Institute of Fisheries Ecology, you will play a vital role in supporting aquaculture research in Bremerhaven. Your daily responsibilities include conducting electrochemical and photometric water analyses, managing the water laboratory, and maintaining aquaculture recirculation systems. A significant part of the role involves establishing cultivation methods for marine invertebrates such as snails and mussels, as well as algae. Beyond laboratory and cultivation work, you will handle administrative tasks including order processing, invoice management, and data entry. This position is particularly attractive for those who enjoy working with live organisms and want to contribute to meaningful research within a federal institute. The role offers a transition from full-time to part-time (70%) in late 2026, providing a structured work-life balance within a public service framework (TVöD).
Required Skills
Education
State certification as a Biological Technical Assistant (BTA), Chemical Technical Assistant (CTA), Laboratory Technical Assistant (LTA), Veterinary Medical Technical Assistant (VMTA), or a comparable degree.
Experience
- Professional experience in aquaculture research or the handling of live aquatic organisms is preferred
- Experience in managing aquaculture recirculation systems
- Experience in performing chemical or biological laboratory analyses
- Experience with administrative tasks such as order and invoice processing

- Willingness to perform weekend duties is required. Willingness to work with live organisms is mandatory. The position is fixed-term until July 31, 2029, with a shift from full-time to 70% part-time starting November 1, 2026. Location: Bremerhaven, Germany.
