Job Summary

As a Firmware Development Engineer specializing in Optronics, you will play a critical role in driving digital transformation by managing the migration and development of firmware for high-tech imaging systems. Based in the Augsburg/Aichach region, your daily responsibilities will involve migrating firmware to new FPGA platforms, specifically Lattice devices, and adapting systems to accommodate new image sensors. You will be responsible for implementing complex video conversion logic, such as parallel image data to MIPI CSI-2, and ensuring system stability through rigorous testing, debugging, and documentation. This role is ideal for a technical specialist who enjoys working at the intersection of hardware and software within a collaborative 'Du-culture' environment. The position is particularly attractive due to its focus on cutting-edge technologies like AI and Cyber Security, offering a permanent contract with flexible hybrid work options and significant creative freedom in a security-relevant industrial context.

Required Skills

Education

Completed degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a comparable field of study; alternatively, a completed vocational training with relevant additional qualifications.

Experience

  • Extensive professional experience in firmware development
  • Proven experience working with Lattice Diamond and FPGA platforms
  • Experience in developing with VHDL and/or Verilog hardware description languages
  • Practical experience in implementing video converters on FPGAs is preferred
  • Professional background in digital image transmission and thermal camera technology is an advantage
  • Previous experience within the defense technology sector is beneficial
