Job Summary

This 3-year PhD position offers a unique opportunity to conduct advanced research at the intersection of the University of Rostock's Institute of Chemistry and the Leibniz Institute for Catalysis (LIKAT). As a Research Associate, you will focus on developing sustainable chemical processes, specifically the synthesis of bio-based aromatic compounds and building blocks for high-performance polymers. Your daily work involves utilizing cutting-edge catalytic methods, including transition metal catalysis, organocatalysis, and photocatalysis, to convert carbohydrates into valuable materials. You will be responsible for investigating polymerization reactions, analyzing novel polymer properties, and publishing your findings in scientific journals. This role is ideal for a motivated chemist looking to contribute to green chemistry and material science within a world-class research infrastructure. The position is part-time (20 hours per week) and provides a collaborative, international environment in the vibrant seaside city of Rostock.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree, Diploma, or State Examination in Chemistry with a focus on Organic Chemistry or Catalysis (minimum grade 'Good' or equivalent).

Experience

  • Professional experience in organic chemical synthesis techniques and standard laboratory routines
  • Demonstrated experience in applying analytical methods within organic chemistry
  • Experience in conducting independent and goal-oriented research projects
  • Experience in the publication of scientific research results
