Job Summary

This PhD position at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Advanced Materials Simulation (ICAMS) at Ruhr-University Bochum offers a unique opportunity to conduct high-level research in the field of computational materials science. The successful candidate will focus on developing highly efficient, massively parallel numerical solvers for the transport and chemical reactions of gases and solids under flow conditions. Day-to-day responsibilities include numerical modeling of solid-gas chemical reactions, coupling flow solvers with phase-field methods, and optimizing code for GPU/CPU architectures. You will integrate your developments into the OpenPhase simulation framework and collaborate within a large research network (SFB-TRR 287). This role is ideal for individuals with a strong background in theoretical physics or computational engineering who wish to bridge the gap between software engineering and complex physical modeling. The position is part-time (75%) and fixed-term for 36 months, providing a structured environment for academic growth and international publication.

Required Skills

Education

Master’s degree or Diploma in Computational Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Theoretical Physics.
