Job Summary
This position offers a unique opportunity to work at the Messel Research Station, a UNESCO World Heritage site, within the Senckenberg Society for Nature Research. As a Student Research Assistant, you will play a vital role in the preservation and documentation of paleontological specimens. Your day-to-day responsibilities include preparing fossils for examination, maintaining glycerine-filled specimen containers, and documenting findings in Excel. You will also be responsible for photographing fossils, organizing storage drawers, and preparing delicate scientific loans for transport. This role is ideal for students who enjoy meticulous, hands-on work with natural history collections. It provides an engaging entry point into a world-renowned research environment, allowing you to contribute directly to geobiodiversity research while working alongside international experts in the field of paleobiology.
Required Skills
Education
Current enrollment in a natural science degree program (e.g., Biology, Geosciences, Paleontology, or a related field).
Experience
- Professional experience in a scientific or laboratory environment is preferred
- Experience in handling delicate or sensitive materials
- Experience with structured data maintenance and documentation
- Experience in basic photography or image documentation is considered an advantage

Additional
- Maximum 42 hours per month (Minijob). Fixed-term contract for 7 months starting May 1, 2026. Location: Messel, Germany. Requires a valid certificate of enrollment (Immatrikulationsbescheinigung).
