Research Associate (PhD Candidate) | wiss. Mitarbeiter/in (Doktorand/in) (m/w/d) - 016/26
Friedrich-Loeffler Institut Bundesforschungsinstitut für Tiergesundheit
Job Summary
This position offers an exciting opportunity to join an EU-funded project focused on the risk of antibiotic resistance spread in veterinary pathogens, specifically Clostridia and Escherichia coli. Based in Jena, the successful candidate will conduct day-to-day work involving the bioinformatic characterization of zoonotic pathogens using whole-genome sequencing (WGS) data and performing in-vitro laboratory experiments to quantify horizontal gene transfer. The role is designed for a researcher aiming to complete a doctoral thesis within a highly motivated, interdisciplinary team. Key responsibilities include establishing bioinformatic approaches to derive resistance determinants and strengthening international research networks. This position is particularly attractive due to its 65% part-time structure (25.35 hours/week) which explicitly allows time for doctoral research, combined with the benefits of the German public service collective agreement (TVöD), a professional graduate school environment, and flexible working hours in a family-friendly atmosphere.
