Job Summary

The State Office for the Environment in Mainz is seeking an Information Security Officer to lead and manage its information security framework. In this role, you will be responsible for the development, operation, and continuous improvement of the Information Security Management System (ISMS), ensuring compliance with NIS-2 requirements and BSI IT-Grundschutz standards. Your day-to-day activities will include advising management and technical departments on security matters, performing risk analyses, and coordinating technical and organizational security measures. You will also create emergency IT concepts, conduct internal audits, and develop security awareness training for staff. Required Skills

Education

Master's degree or University Diploma in a field related to IT (preferably Computer Science, Business Informatics, Physics, or Mathematics); or equivalent qualification with relevant professional experience and further training in IT security.

Experience

  • Several years of professional experience in information security or related IT sub-sectors
  • Practical experience in IT project management or sub-project leadership for small to medium-sized projects
  • Experience in the operation of an ISMS and application of IT security standards (e.g., ISO 27001) is preferred
  • At least two years of experience dealing with legal and normative requirements for information security and data protection is advantageous

  • Candidates with foreign degrees must provide proof of equivalence via the Central Office for Foreign Education (ZAB). The role is eligible for public service official (Beamte) status up to grade A 13 LBesG or tariff employment up to EG 13 TV-L.
