Job Summary

This part-time (50%) permanent position at the ZEMOS Research Center at Ruhr University Bochum offers a dynamic role supporting cutting-edge scientific projects within an interdisciplinary and international team. As a Laboratory Assistant, your daily activities will involve technical support for mammalian cell culture, isolating primary cells from human blood samples, and managing heterologous protein expression in bacterial cells. You will be responsible for protein purification, preparing essential buffers and media, and operating specialized equipment such as spectrometers and microscopes in a biophysical setting. Beyond technical tasks, you will assist in the fundamental organization of a biochemical laboratory, manage deep-cold gases, and ensure safety compliance. This role is ideal for a proactive professional who enjoys collaborative work in an agile environment and is comfortable communicating with researchers and students from diverse backgrounds in both German and English.

Required Skills

Education

Successfully completed vocational training as a Biology Laboratory Technician, Biological Technical Assistant (BTA), or Medical Technical Assistant (MTA).

Experience

  • Mandatory professional experience in a Biosafety Level S1 scientific laboratory
  • Mandatory experience in heterologous gene expression and protein purification
  • Professional experience in cell culture laboratories is highly preferred
  • Experience in creating occupational safety documents and waste disposal management is an advantage
  • Proven experience in independent working, time management, and laboratory organization
