Job Summary

This Junior Research Technical Assistant position is based within the Clinical Cohorts/Biomarker unit at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE). The successful candidate will play a vital role in identifying and quantifying innovative cardiovascular biomarkers and supporting large-scale biobank infrastructure. Day-to-day responsibilities include processing and quality-assuring clinical samples such as blood, tissue, and cells, as well as performing high-throughput measurements using ELISA and automated platforms. The role also involves meticulous documentation of samples and data within clinical study frameworks and contributing to the optimization of new testing procedures. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to work in a modern, translational research environment. The position is initially a two-year fixed-term contract for maternity/parental leave cover, offering a meaningful contribution to global health within a supportive and diverse academic medical setting.

Required Skills

Education

Completed vocational training as a Biological Technical Assistant (BTA), Chemical Technical Assistant (CTA), Biology Laboratory Technician, or Chemistry Laboratory Technician; OR a university degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Molecular Life Science, Chemistry, or Biochemistry.

Experience

  • Professional experience in laboratory work as a BTA, CTA, or Laboratory Technician
  • 2 years of active laboratory experience required for specific salary grouping (EG 9a) if holding a university degree
  • Initial practical experience in routine diagnostics or clinical-chemical and immunological testing procedures
  • Experience in biobank structures and processing human biomaterials is desirable
  • Experience in structured and independent work within a research environment
