Job Summary

This part-time Research Associate position at the Thünen Institute of Sea Fisheries involves working on the 'Pre-Dave' project, which focuses on assessing fish and benthic communities at offshore wind farm structures. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing monitoring strategies for the environmentally friendly decommissioning of these structures. Day-to-day responsibilities include organizing and conducting field campaigns at sea, performing data entry, and maintaining project databases. You will utilize innovative monitoring techniques such as beam trawl surveys, environmental DNA (eDNA) sampling, and drop-camera systems. This role is ideal for a marine scientist interested in applied research that bridges the gap between offshore energy and marine conservation. The position offers a high degree of flexibility with mobile work options and the chance to contribute to policy-relevant environmental standards within a renowned federal research institute.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree or University Diploma in Marine Biology, Fisheries Biology, or a comparable discipline.

Experience

  • Professional experience in the preparation and execution of experimental field work
  • Professional experience in compiling and managing datasets and creating databases
  • Experience working within interdisciplinary research teams
  • Experience in project coordination is preferred
  • Experience in organizing and conducting sampling at sea

Additional

  • Willingness to learn German is required. Candidates with international degrees must provide a certificate evaluation from the Central Office for Foreign Education (ZAB). The position is part-time (19.5 hours/week) and fixed-term for 18 months.
