Job Summary

As an IT Application Manager for the Federal Administration Office (BVA), you will play a pivotal role in digitizing Germany's public sector by managing the 'Digital Aid' (Digitale Beihilfe) system. Your day-to-day responsibilities include overseeing the entire application lifecycle from delivery to production, managing deployments, and resolving technical incidents. You will act as a critical interface between external development service providers, test teams, and internal product owners. The role involves technical analysis, release planning, and driving the transformation toward modern technologies like containerization and cloud-native practices. This position is particularly attractive due to its high job security as a permanent public service role, significant monthly specialist allowances of up to €1,500, and a flexible work environment that supports a healthy work-life balance through home office options and flexible hours.

Required Skills

Education

Completed vocational training as an IT Specialist (Application Development or System Integration), a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or a degree in another field combined with at least one year of agile software development experience.

Experience

  • 2+ years of professional experience in technical software development activities such as object-oriented programming, test automation, or DevOps
  • Professional experience in Linux systems and database management
  • Experience in managing external service providers and 2nd/3rd level support is preferred
  • Experience with Java, Spring, Angular, or containerization is highly advantageous
  • Proven track record in agile project environments
