Job Summary

This role at Silicon Austria Labs (SAL) involves driving innovation in optical and semiconductor technologies within the Thin Film Technologies Research Unit. As a Physicist, you will lead the development of lithium niobate thin films (TFLN) for integrated photonic applications. Your daily responsibilities include designing and executing experiments to optimize thin film materials, performing structural and functional characterizations (electrical, piezoelectric, optical), and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams across design and fabrication. You will also be responsible for filing IP disclosures, publishing in high-impact journals, and contributing to project management and funding acquisitions. Required Skills

Education

PhD in Physics, Materials Science, or a related discipline

Experience

  • Professional experience in thin-film deposition, specifically sputtering
  • Hands-on experience in structural, electrical, and functional characterization of materials
  • Experience working with oxide materials such as lithium niobate or PZT
  • Proven track record of working in cleanroom environments
  • Experience in collaborating with industrial partners and multicultural teams
  • Experience with 200 mm wafer processing is preferred
  • Experience with successful funding applications is an advantage
