Job Summary
This PhD Researcher position offers a unique opportunity to develop innovative hybrid machine learning control systems for the Celluveyor robotics platform. The successful candidate will spend their day-to-day implementing, testing, and validating algorithms on real production systems and embedded hardware platforms. You will analyze and optimize control strategies for modular conveyor systems using modern machine learning and automation techniques. A key part of the role involves scientific publishing, attending international conferences, and completing a doctoral dissertation. This position is particularly attractive as it is part of a European research network, offering international mobility through research stays (secondments) in Bielefeld and York. You will work at the intersection of machine learning, control theory, and robotics within a diverse, high-tech environment that provides state-of-the-art hardware and flexible working conditions.
Required Skills
Education
Master's degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Robotics, or a related field. Must not already hold a PhD.
Experience
- Professional experience in complex software system development
- Maximum of 4 years of research experience after obtaining a Master's degree
- Experience in robotics software and simulation environments
- Previous experience with embedded software or hardware-related development preferred
- Proven track record of independent, structured scientific work

- Must meet MSCA mobility rule: cannot have resided or worked in Germany for more than 12 months in the 3 years prior to recruitment. Requires willingness for international travel/secondments. Non-EU applicants must be eligible for a German work visa.
