Job Summary
This PhD position at the University of Wuppertal involves independently managing a DFG-funded research project focused on developing sustainable aluminum alloys using Directed Energy Deposition (DED) and Powder Bed Fusion - Laser Beam (PBF-LB) additive manufacturing processes. The role requires scientific processing of project content, operating associated equipment, and actively participating in project meetings and collaborations with partner institutions. Key responsibilities include documenting, publishing, and presenting scientific results, contributing to new project development, and fostering personal research ideas in materials development. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in materials science, experience with metallic additive manufacturing, and a passion for research, contributing to an international and interdisciplinary team environment.
Required Skills
Education
Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or a comparable field
Experience
- Initial experience in additive manufacturing of metallic materials using DED and/or PBF-LB processes
- Experience working in research
- Experience with complex systems and equipment

- This is a qualification position intended to support a doctoral procedure (PhD). The position is limited for the duration of the doctoral procedure, initially up to 3 years, with potential for extension within the limits of the German Fixed-Term Employment Contracts in Academia Act (WissZeitVG).
