Job Summary
This role at the Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems (IPMS) focuses on the scientific research and development of the entire microLED process technology chain. As a Research Associate, you will be responsible for substrate development, full-color approaches, and the assembly of microLEDs with CMOS backplanes. Your day-to-day work involves optimizing technological processes, performing electrical and optical characterization of devices, and managing system integration for high-brightness emissive microdisplay prototypes. You will act as a vital link between IC design and cleanroom operations, ensuring the co-optimization of front-end and back-end technologies. This position is highly interdisciplinary and involves collaborating with international research and industry partners. Required Skills
Education
Master's degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering (focus on Microelectronics or Information Technology), Microsystems Engineering, Physics, Photonics, or a related field. A PhD is welcomed but not required.
Experience
- Professional experience in semiconductor technology or optoelectronics is preferred but not mandatory for high-performing graduates
- Experience in CMOS process integration or circuit design is advantageous
- Experience in structured planning and implementation of complex development tasks
- Experience in scientific communication and presenting results to technical audiences
- Experience or interest in acquiring research projects and drafting funding applications
Languages
Additional
- The position is initially limited to 2 years with a long-term perspective. Weekly working hours are 39 hours (full-time), though part-time is possible. Candidates must be able to communicate scientific content at a C1-C2 level in both languages.
