Job Summary

This role at the Fraunhofer Institute for Physical Measurement Techniques (IPM) focuses on the cutting-edge development of underwater laser scanner systems. As an Embedded Systems Developer with a focus on FPGA, you will be responsible for designing and optimizing high-performance data processing systems used for 3D mapping of underwater infrastructure like pipelines and harbor facilities. Your daily tasks include implementing embedded software in C/C++ for Petalinux on Xilinx-Zynq platforms and developing real-time data processing algorithms for signal acquisition. Working within a multidisciplinary team of optics experts and electronics developers, you will take systems from design through to commissioning and performance analysis. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in applied research on globally deployed maritime technologies. The role is based in Freiburg and offers a structured yet creative environment with flexible working hours and the stability of the TVöD public service contract.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree in Embedded Systems Engineering or a comparable qualification.

Experience

  • Professional experience or project-based experience in FPGA development using Verilog or VHDL
  • Experience in implementing embedded software for Xilinx-Zynq platforms
  • Experience in developing real-time algorithms for data processing
  • Proven experience in commissioning and testing complex technical systems
  • Experience working in collaborative, multidisciplinary technical teams
