Job Summary

This part-time PhD position (67% FTE) at the Chair of Inorganic Chemistry II at Ruhr-University Bochum offers a unique opportunity to conduct high-level research in organometallic synthesis and homogeneous catalysis. The successful candidate will lead a project focused on developing new catalysts using Palladium, Nickel, and Copper, involving ligand design and the synthesis of air- and moisture-sensitive compounds. Day-to-day responsibilities include testing catalysts via high-throughput methods, characterizing compounds using advanced analytics (NMR, GC/MS, Crystallography), and documenting findings for international publication. The role is highly collaborative, involving student supervision and participation in international seminars. This position is ideal for researchers looking to combine traditional synthetic methods with modern techniques like machine learning and quantum chemistry in a supportive, international academic environment. The contract is fixed-term for three years starting in July 2026.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree in Chemistry (with excellent grades)

Experience

  • Professional experience in the synthesis of transition metal complexes and homogeneous catalysis reactions
  • Practical experience in handling air- and moisture-sensitive compounds under inert gas conditions
  • Experience in the analysis and characterization of organic and organometallic compounds
  • Experience with chemical software and evaluation programs such as ChemDraw and MestReNova
  • Experience in drafting scientific manuscripts and presenting research results
