Job Summary

This Postdoctoral Researcher role at the Senckenberg Institute for Plant Form and Function (SIP) in Jena focuses on the ecology and evolution of bryophytes. You will lead research investigating microhabitat adaptation, speciation, and hybridization using a combination of population genomics, transcriptomics, and environmental data. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting fieldwork, laboratory experiments (DNA/RNA sequencing), and performing complex bioinformatic and statistical analyses. You will also curate herbarium datasets and publish findings in peer-reviewed journals. This position is ideal for a scientist interested in global change and biodiversity. The role offers a collaborative, international research environment within the prestigious Leibniz Association, featuring flexible working hours, mobile work options, and a 36-month initial contract with potential for extension. Required Skills

Education

Doctoral degree (PhD) in Biology or a related subject with a focus on molecular ecology (candidates in the final stages of their PhD may also apply).

Experience

  • Professional experience in ecological-evolutionary genomics, transcriptomics, or genetics
  • Professional experience in plant systematics or functional biodiversity
  • Hands-on experience with state-of-the-art molecular laboratory techniques (DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, NGS)
  • Experience in bioinformatics and statistical methods using Bash, R, or Python
  • Proven track record of scientific publication and presentation at international conferences
  • Experience in funding acquisition is considered advantageous
  • Experience working with bryophytes is considered advantageous
