Job Summary

The German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) is seeking a dynamic Team Lead to head the newly established Data Curation Unit (DCU) within the Helmholtz Imaging initiative. In this pivotal role, you will manage a multidisciplinary team of machine learning and image analysis experts to co-develop and implement a unified data curation framework across multiple prestigious research sites. Your day-to-day will involve coordinating cross-center support activities, overseeing the development of structured workflows for image data formation, and formalizing best practices for data annotation and quality control. This position is uniquely attractive as it sits at the intersection of high-level scientific research and AI infrastructure, offering the chance to shape the standards for reproducible, AI-ready imaging datasets in one of Europe’s largest cancer research environments. Required Skills

PhD in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or a related discipline

Experience

  • Proven leadership experience, including mentoring and coordination of interdisciplinary teams
  • Demonstrated experience in handling and curating complex imaging datasets
  • Strong expertise in image analysis and machine learning with an understanding of data impact on AI performance
  • Excellent record in open-source software development and collaborative practices (code review, CI)
  • Proven track record of interdisciplinary and international collaboration
  • Experience in developing structured workflows and standards
