This role involves the monitoring and regulation of indirect wastewater discharges for commercial and industrial enterprises within the City of Hanover. As a key member of the municipal drainage department, you will manage administrative procedures related to water law, statutes, and environmental permits (IED/BImSchG). Your daily responsibilities include evaluating the dischargeability of special wastewater types—such as groundwater or firefighting water—and leading projects to resolve complex operational issues within the sewer network and treatment plants. You will also be responsible for enforcing hazard prevention measures during incidents. Required Skills

Education

University degree (Bachelor/Diploma) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Chemical Process Engineering, Water and Environmental Engineering, Environmental Technology, or Environmental Sciences.

Experience

  • At least 3 years of professional experience as an engineer, preferably in indirect discharge monitoring or site drainage
  • Experience in administrative processing of statements or permit procedures under statutory and water law
  • Proven experience in project planning and project management for complex operational problems
  • Experience in assessing discharge criteria for specialized wastewater types
  • Experience in enforcing hazard prevention measures and handling incidents

Additional

  • Valid Class B (Class 3) driver's license required. Must be physically capable of walking on uneven terrain, carrying heavy loads, and lifting manhole covers. Participation in regular on-call duty outside core hours and on weekends is required, with the ability to reach the Hanover city area within one hour.
