Job Summary

This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research, contributing to the FAIR project, one of the world's largest research initiatives. As an Electrical or Automation Engineer within the 'Superconducting Magnets & Testing' department, you will act as a system expert responsible for the integration, installation, and commissioning of electronic protection systems for superconducting components. Your daily responsibilities include planning and procuring technical infrastructure, maintaining operational readiness of electronic assemblies, and supporting test stand teams with error diagnosis and data analysis. You will also lead electrotechnical tasks as a qualified electrician (EFK). This position is ideal for professionals who enjoy a mix of hands-on technical work and high-level system planning in a multidisciplinary, international scientific environment. The role is fixed-term until September 2030 and provides a chance to work with cutting-edge particle accelerator technology.

Required Skills

Education

University degree (M.Sc., M.Eng., or University Diploma) in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a comparable qualification.

Experience

  • Professional experience with complex electronic systems
  • Practical experience in integrating electronic units into electrical systems
  • Experience in the design, simulation, testing, and production of electronic assemblies
  • Experience in programming and software design environments
  • Experience performing and supervising electrotechnical work as a qualified electrician (EFK)
