Job Summary

This role is part of the Helmholtz Association's HPC Gateway initiative at the GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research. As a Project Engineer, you will lead the development of an AI-based analysis module designed to evaluate production changes within the technical workspaces of the GSI and FAIR particle accelerator facilities. Your daily responsibilities include performing requirement analyses, integrating multimodal data models, and developing interface logic for SAP integration. You will be tasked with creating forecast logic and risk assessments to simulate future impacts of technical modifications. This position is uniquely positioned at the intersection of high-performance computing (HPC), artificial intelligence, and large-scale scientific infrastructure. It offers the chance to work in an international research environment, collaborating with industrial partners to bridge the gap between cutting-edge academic research and practical industrial application. The role is fixed-term until December 31, 2026, and is based in Darmstadt, Germany.

Required Skills

Education

University degree (ideally a Doctorate/PhD) in Engineering or Industrial Engineering with a technical focus on Civil Engineering or a comparable qualification.

Experience

  • Professional experience in project management and collaboration with industrial companies
  • Experience in the field of Information Technology (IT)
  • Demonstrated experience in developing AI-based models or multimodal simulations
  • Proven ability to analyze complex technological issues and present them abstractly
  • Experience in structured planning and organizational management within a technical environment
