Job Summary

This role is part of the Helmholtz Association's HPC Gateway initiative at the GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research. As a Project Engineer, you will be responsible for the digitalization of existing buildings and facilities within the GSI/FAIR research infrastructure. Your day-to-day work involves high-tech data collection using laser scanning, photogrammetry, and 360° imaging, followed by the processing and quality assurance of 3D data using Machine Learning and BIM/IFC standards. You will bridge the gap between high-performance computing (HPC) and physical infrastructure by integrating digital twin models. This position is ideal for an engineer with a strong IT affinity and project management skills who enjoys working at the intersection of cutting-edge science and industrial application. The role offers a unique opportunity to work on one of the world's largest research projects in an international environment, featuring flexible working arrangements and state-of-the-art technical equipment.

Required Skills

Education

Completed university degree (ideally a PhD) in Engineering or Industrial Engineering with a technical focus on Civil Engineering or a comparable qualification with IT experience.

Experience

  • Professional experience in project management and collaboration with industrial partners
  • Experience in IT and technical engineering fields, specifically related to civil engineering or industrial engineering
  • Experience in digital data collection and processing of 3D models
  • Proven ability to analyze and present complex technological issues abstractly
  • Experience in structured, independent planning and organizational tasks
