Job Summary
This role involves contributing to the development and testing of the superconducting linear accelerator HELIAC (HElmholtz LInear ACcelerator) at the Helmholtz Institute Mainz. As a Physicist or Engineer, you will be responsible for conducting performance tests on superconducting accelerator cavities for heavy ions and adjusting the natural frequency of the superconducting re-buncher cavity. Your daily activities will include assembling accelerator strings in a cleanroom environment and actively participating in the test operation of the first cryogenic module at GSI. Additionally, you will play a key role in advancing the helium supply systems. Required Skills
Education
Master's degree or equivalent in Physics or Engineering
Experience
- Professional experience in calculating electromagnetic fields using CST Software Suite
- Professional experience in CAD and FEM calculations for mechanical deformations
- Practical experience in handling liquid helium and cryogenic systems
- Experience in the assembly and testing of accelerator components is preferred

Additional
- The position is a fixed-term contract for 3 years. Candidates must be available for work at the GSI location in Darmstadt. Salary is based on the TVöD (Bund) collective agreement.
