Job Summary

This position at the Faculty of Biology, Chair of Botany, offers a unique opportunity to conduct ethnobotanical research in Northwest Vietnam or Sub-Saharan Africa. As a Research Associate and Doctoral Candidate, you will lead a research project focusing on the documentation of local and regional useful plants, analyzing their usage intensity, population sizes, potential threats, and value chains. Your day-to-day work involves conducting interviews with local populations to gather data for index-based analysis. Beyond field research, you will support the supervision of Bachelor and Master students, collaborate with internal and external partners, and contribute to teaching in both German and English. This 3.5-year part-time role (50%) is specifically designed to facilitate the completion of a PhD at TU Dresden, a prestigious University of Excellence. It is ideal for researchers passionate about biodiversity, sustainable cultivation, and international field work in tropical or subtropical environments.

Required Skills

Education

University degree (Master's or equivalent) in Biology with a focus on Botany or a comparable scientific field.

Experience

  • Professional experience in biological research, specifically within the field of botany
  • Experience in conducting field work under tropical or subtropical conditions is preferred
  • Experience in academic teaching and supervising student assistants or interns
  • Experience in collaborating with international research partners
  • Experience in presenting scientific results at conferences
