Job Summary

The German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) is seeking an Independent Junior Research Group Leader for its Freiburg partner site of the German Cancer Consortium (DKTK). This role focuses on translational cancer research, bridging basic science with clinical applications, with a strong alignment to areas like Cancer Immunity and Escape, Radio-Theranostics and Imaging, or Translational Epigenetics and Genomics. The successful candidate will lead an independent research group, contribute to nationally and internationally visible consortia, and leverage cutting-edge technology platforms. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly accomplished postdoctoral researcher to establish an innovative, internationally competitive research program within a leading cancer research institution, fostering collaborations and mentoring junior scientists.

Required Skills

Education

PhD in life or data sciences and/or MD in medicine

Experience

  • 3-6 years of excellent postdoctoral achievements in a relevant research area
  • Over 3 years of significant international research experience
  • Proven expertise in translational cancer research, bridging preclinical and clinical approaches
  • Strong publication record appropriate to career stage
  • History of ambitious acquisition of competitive third-party funding
  • Experience in managing interdisciplinary research projects
  • Leadership skills and diversity competency
