Job Summary
The Faculty of Computer Science at Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) is seeking a part-time IT Technician to support the Information Security research group. In this role, you will manage a diverse hardware and software ecosystem, including PCs, tablets, servers, and specialized cluster environments across Linux, macOS, iOS, and Windows platforms. Your daily responsibilities will range from hardware procurement and network administration to configuring critical services like DNS, DHCP, and virtualization tools such as Docker and VMware. You will provide technical support to staff and students in both German and English. This position is particularly attractive for those interested in cutting-edge research environments, as it offers the chance to work with high-performance GPUs, blockchain testbeds, and Trusted Execution Environments (Intel SGX). The role is permanent and based at one of Germany's leading research universities, providing a stable yet dynamic environment within the CASA Excellence Cluster framework.
Required Skills
Education
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a comparable field of study.
Experience
- Professional experience in the IT sector is preferred, though qualified entry-level candidates are welcome.
- Practical experience in installing, configuring, and maintaining multi-platform hardware and software environments.
- Proven experience with programming and scripting for automation and service management.
- Experience in procurement and testing of specialized hardware components like GPUs.
