Job Summary

This role involves the coordination and further development of the PhenObs@herbaria network at the Senckenberg Institute for Plant Diversity in Jena. As a Research Associate, you will be responsible for the collection, analysis, and publication of phenological data and trait sets from herbarium specimens. Day-to-day duties include managing standardized observation protocols, publishing findings in high-ranking journals, and presenting research at international conferences. You will also play a key role in academic life by supervising student assistants, providing guidance for graduates, and contributing to teaching activities at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena. This position offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of historical herbarium collections and modern biodiversity research within a world-renowned research institution. Required Skills

Education

Master's degree in Plant Ecology or a related field (PhD is an advantage).

Experience

  • Extensive professional experience in the phenological observation of plants and the measurement of traits
  • Proven experience in modern statistical evaluation using tools such as R or Python
  • Professional experience in planning and conducting academic courses or lectures
  • Experience in the guidance, instruction, and motivation of student assistants and students
  • Experience in publishing scientific results in high-ranking journals
