Job Summary
This role involves the coordination and further development of the PhenObs@herbaria network at the Senckenberg Institute for Plant Diversity in Jena. As a Research Associate, you will be responsible for the collection, analysis, and publication of phenological data and trait sets from herbarium specimens. Day-to-day duties include managing standardized observation protocols, publishing findings in high-ranking journals, and presenting research at international conferences. You will also play a key role in academic life by supervising student assistants, providing guidance for graduates, and contributing to teaching activities at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena. Required Skills
Education
Master's degree in Plant Ecology or a related field (PhD is an advantage).
Experience
- Extensive professional experience in the phenological observation of plants and the measurement of traits
- Proven experience in modern statistical evaluation using tools such as R or Python
- Professional experience in planning and conducting academic courses or lectures
- Experience in the guidance, instruction, and motivation of student assistants and students
- Experience in publishing scientific results in high-ranking journals
