Job Summary

This part-time (65%) research position at the Senckenberg Biodiversity and Climate Research Centre focuses on the BE-DEF project, investigating the biodiversity and functions of Enchytraeidae (potworms) in grassland ecosystems. The successful candidate will conduct field sampling across Germany and perform sophisticated molecular laboratory work, including metabarcoding and DNA-barcoding of environmental DNA (eDNA) and bulk samples. Day-to-day responsibilities involve morphological identification using light microscopy, sequence data management, and spatial-temporal analysis of genetic biodiversity. This role is highly collaborative, requiring short-term laboratory visits to partner institutions in Görlitz, Göttingen, and Wilhelmshaven. It offers a unique opportunity to contribute to high-impact ecological research within a world-leading institution. The position is ideal for researchers passionate about soil fauna and functional environmental genomics, offering flexible working hours and a dynamic international environment while addressing critical questions regarding the impact of land use on essential ecosystem processes.
