Job Summary

This role involves overseeing and optimizing the core infrastructure of a high-performance computing data center at GWDG. You will be responsible for the implementation and maintenance of environmental management systems according to EMAS standards, and supporting certifications such as ISO 27001 and the Blue Engel. Day-to-day tasks include monitoring IT infrastructure for efficiency, capacity planning for new HPC systems, and generating annual environmental reports. You will also manage technical operating parameters with a focus on sustainability and energy efficiency. This position is unique as it sits at the intersection of high-level scientific research and industrial infrastructure management, offering a collaborative environment within a major IT competence center. It is ideal for candidates who are self-organized, communicative, and interested in promoting green IT practices within a public service framework.

Required Skills

Education

Completed University degree (Bachelor or Master) preferably in Computer Science, Technical/Natural Sciences, Mathematics, Engineering, Energy Technology, or Environmental Sciences.

Experience

  • Professional experience in data center or IT infrastructure management

  • Practical experience in Linux/UNIX system administration
