Job Summary

This leadership role involves managing the Hydraulic Engineering and Forestry department for the city of Dessau-Roßlau. You will be responsible for the strategic coordination and operational control of diverse areas including flood protection, wastewater management, urban fountains, and forestry administration. Key duties include personnel leadership, budget management, and representing the city's interests in large-scale construction and planning projects. You will also lead the acquisition of funding from EU, federal, and state programs and manage complex water law approval processes. The position offers a unique opportunity to shape the infrastructure and environmental protection of a UNESCO World Heritage region. This is a permanent, full-time position (39 hours/week) within the public service pay scale (TVöD E11), offering long-term stability in a family-friendly city with high recreational value.

Required Skills

Education

University degree (Diploma or Bachelor) in Hydraulic Engineering, Water Management, Urban Water Management, Landscape Architecture, or a comparable field of study.

Experience

  • Several years of professional experience in hydraulic engineering, water management, landscaping, or flood protection
  • Several years of leadership experience preferred (candidates without leadership experience may be considered for a 2-year probationary period)
  • Experience in managing complex water law permit and planning approval procedures
  • Proven experience in public sector communication and stakeholder management
