Job Summary

As a Senior Applied Scientist within the Partner Tech team, you will serve as a key driver for Zalando's business performance by refining and owning the article demand forecast engine. Your day-to-day responsibilities involve conceptualizing, prototyping, and productionizing state-of-the-art forecasting solutions and advanced experimentation frameworks to measure causal impacts of marketing campaigns. You will collaborate closely with product managers and engineers to optimize customer promotions and steer marketing investments. This role is unique because it offers end-to-end ownership of the algorithmic development cycle—from opportunity discovery to production—while influencing long-term scientific roadmaps. You will also play a pivotal role in the team's growth by mentoring junior scientists and fostering a culture of high engineering standards. Required Skills

Education

Master's degree or PhD in Quantitative Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Operations Research, or a related quantitative discipline.

Experience

  • 5+ years of industry experience in developing forecasting models (3+ years if holding a PhD)
  • Professional experience using both statistical methods and machine learning techniques for forecasting
  • Demonstrated experience in mentoring junior colleagues and leading team educational initiatives
  • Proven track record in managing the full development cycle of algorithms from discovery to production
  • Experience with high coding standards and active participation in code reviews
