Job Summary

This permanent role involves leading the IT Hardware Service department for the Cologne District Government. You will be responsible for the cross-site organization of the IT service office and workshop, managing hardware configurations, and overseeing data transmission networks. A unique aspect of this position is acting as an instructor for IT System Electronics trainees, shaping the next generation of technical professionals. You will join a department of approximately 80 employees dedicated to the digital transformation of the North Rhine-Westphalia state administration. This role is ideal for a service-oriented professional who enjoys a mix of organizational leadership and technical hands-on support. The position offers the stability of the German public service (TV-L E11) and the opportunity to contribute to infrastructure that serves over 4 million citizens. Key responsibilities include ensuring hardware availability, managing network support, and maintaining high standards of customer-oriented IT service delivery across multiple government locations.

Required Skills

Education

University degree in Computer Science (or related focus), or certified Operative/Bachelor Professional IT, or State-certified Technician in Informatics/Electrical Engineering. Alternatively, a completed IT vocational training with additional IHK specialist certification.

Experience

  • Professional experience in information technology
  • Experience in organizational team leadership (without disciplinary responsibility) is preferred
  • Proven experience in hardware configuration and support
  • Experience in managing data transmission networks
  • Long-term relevant professional experience required if applying via the vocational training route

Additional

  • Class B driver's license and willingness to drive service vehicles is required. Instructor aptitude certification (AEVO/IHK) is required (or must be obtained shortly after hiring).
