Job Summary
This research position is based at the Max Rubner-Institut (MRI) in Detmold within the Institute for Safety and Quality in Cereal. As part of an interdisciplinary team, you will contribute to a high-tech project funded by the FNR focused on predicting wheat quality using machine learning, artificial intelligence, and advanced sensor technology. Your daily responsibilities include conducting spectroscopic and image-based analysis of wheat samples, maintaining specialized equipment, and applying chemometric methods for data evaluation. You will design, implement, and validate deep learning algorithms to automate the identification of wheat varieties and quality clusters. The role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of agriculture and cutting-edge data science, with the specific intent of supporting your path toward a doctorate. You will also manage project reporting and present findings at international conferences and in scientific journals. This is a part-time position (65%) within the federal public service (TVöD) framework, offering flexible working hours and mobile work options.
Required Skills
Education
Master's degree, Diploma, or equivalent in Computer Science, Physics, Agro-Bioinformatics, or a closely related field.
Experience
- Professional experience in using spectroscopic devices or optoelectronic systems
- Initial experience in the field of machine learning and deep learning
- Experience in programming with Python or similar scripting languages
- Experience in scientific research and publishing academic papers is preferred
- Experience in project management and interdisciplinary collaboration

- The position is limited until March 31, 2029. It is a part-time role (25.35 hours/week). Mobile work is possible up to 60% within Germany. Applicants must be willing to pursue a doctorate as the position is intended for scientific qualification.
