Job Summary

This research position at Saarland University's Chair of Polymer Materials focuses on the cutting-edge development of stimulus-responsive, bio-inspired hydrogels and antimicrobial polymer coatings. As a Research Associate and PhD candidate, you will engage in the synthesis of pH-responsive zwitterionic monomers and perform advanced polymerizations, including Free Radical and Ring-Opening Metathesis Polymerization. A significant portion of the role involves formulating polymer inks for 3D printing (Direct Ink Writing) to create functional demonstrators like soft robotic grippers. Beyond laboratory research, you will characterize materials, manage laboratory equipment, and contribute to academic teaching within the Materials Science department. This position is ideal for a chemist looking to bridge the gap between molecular synthesis and material engineering. The university offers a highly flexible, family-friendly environment with 50% part-time hours, allowing for a dedicated focus on completing a doctoral thesis within a three-year timeframe.
