Job Summary

As a Clinical Database Engineer at the University Medical Center Mainz, you will play a pivotal role in managing the data infrastructure for the Center for Cardiology. Your daily responsibilities will involve the administration and optimization of diverse database systems including SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB. You will be responsible for building and maintaining critical ETL/ELT pipelines that handle electronic health records (EHR), laboratory, imaging, and clinical trial data. A significant portion of the role involves standardizing medical data using international formats like HL7, FHIR, and SNOMED, and developing REST/FastAPI services for secure data access. This position is ideal for technical professionals who want to apply their database and programming expertise to support epidemiological research and cohort studies. You will work within a highly specialized medical environment, ensuring that curated datasets and monitoring dashboards are available to support clinical excellence and scientific discovery until the end of 2027.

Required Skills

Education

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Medical Informatics, Data Science, or a related field.

Experience

  • Professional experience in database administration with SQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB
  • Proven experience in implementing ETL/ELT tools and processes
  • Experience in programming with languages such as Python, R, C, or Java
  • Experience with REST APIs and modern API integration
  • Desirable experience in Microsoft AD, MSCM/SCCM, and On-Premises hosting
