Job Summary

This critical role as an IT Architect involves shaping the future of public security in Germany and the EU by managing and evolving the software architecture for a highly complex system landscape comprising over 70 systems, including central applications like the National Weapons Register and systems supporting the Schengen external borders. Day-to-day tasks include piloting and integrating new technologies, driving the adoption of DevOps and containerization within the existing infrastructure, and representing the organization's technical interests in national and international working groups. The ideal candidate possesses strong expertise in IT architecture, complex system landscapes, and agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban), aiming to deliver efficient, high-availability solutions that contribute directly to national and European digitalization efforts. This position is a full-time, fixed-term contract based in Cologne.

Required Skills

Education

Master's or Diploma degree in Computer Science or a related IT field is preferred. Certifications in agile methodologies (Scrum, SAFe), ITIL, Project Management (PRINCE2, PMI), or IT Architecture (iSAQB or comparable) are advantageous.

Experience

  • Master's degree in Computer Science (or similar) with at least 1 year of professional experience/knowledge in IT Architecture
  • OR: Degree in another field with at least 2 years of professional experience/knowledge in IT Architecture and agile methods (JIRA, Confluence)
  • OR: 3 years of demonstrable professional experience in IT Architecture, distributed applications, and complex system landscapes
  • Professional experience in a governmental or international environment (Beneficial)
  • Experience in steering external service providers (Beneficial)
