Job Summary

This part-time (30 hours/week) Research Associate role, based in Straubing, focuses on the 'Heat in the Transect' project, investigating the challenges and solutions related to increasing heat in urban and rural environments. Day-to-day responsibilities include determining individual heat sensitivities in the Straubing area, analyzing the knowledge and health status of diverse population groups (e.g., homeless individuals, farmers) regarding heat protection measures, and conducting extensive empirical data collection (qualitative and quantitative) and analysis. The role involves developing action recommendations for policy makers and institutions, close collaboration with regional partners, and managing administrative tasks and reporting for third-party funded projects. Candidates should possess a strong background in social sciences, economics, or environmental studies, excellent analytical skills, and experience with statistical and qualitative analysis software. This position is ideal for individuals interested in autonomous scientific work and pursuing a PhD.

Required Skills

Education

Successfully completed scientific university degree (Diplom [Univ.] or Master) in Social Sciences, Political Science, Communication Sciences, Economics, Social Work, Psychology, Agricultural or Bioeconomics, (Human) Geography, or Environmental and Climate Sciences, or a comparable field of study.

Experience

  • Experience in project work is desirable
  • Knowledge in statistical analysis programs (SPSS, R, Stata) is desirable
  • Knowledge in qualitative evaluation procedures (e.g., qualitative content analysis) is desirable
  • Methodological knowledge in quantitative or qualitative empirical social or market research is ideal
  • Initial practical experience dealing with specified population groups is advantageous
