Job Summary

This position is for a Doctoral Researcher to join the national metrology institute (PTB) in Braunschweig, focusing on the development and optimization of a novel hybrid microscopy instrument for industrial surface metrology applications. The successful candidate will work closely with an industrial partner within the TransMet project, taking an existing experimental setup and developing a functional prototype combining interference and atomic force microscopy. Day-to-day tasks include experimental testing, iterative optimization, characterization, calibration of the hybrid microscope, and comprehensive project documentation and scientific publication. This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of fundamental research and industrial application, contributing to cutting-edge measurement standards while gaining practical skills in innovative instrumentation development.

Required Skills

Education

Completed or soon-to-be-completed University Degree (Diploma/Master's) in Engineering Sciences, Physics, or a comparable field

Experience

  • Professional experience in measurement technology and instrumentation development
  • Experience with Interference Microscopy and/or Atomic Force Microscopy (advantageous)
