Job Summary

The Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), Germany's National Metrology Institute, is seeking a dedicated Scientist/Researcher specializing in Experimental and Medical Physics to join their Dosimetry division in Braunschweig. This permanent, full-time role is crucial for maintaining and advancing metrological standards, specifically the unit “Gray,” for X-ray and gamma radiation used in medical applications. Day-to-day responsibilities involve operating and developing primary measurement standards, conducting international key comparison measurements, and providing high-level metrological services, including type testing according to the German Measurement Act (MessEG) and supporting calibration of secondary standards. The successful candidate will also manage research projects, secure third-party funding, and represent the PTB in national and international metrology and standardization committees. A completed Ph.D. in a relevant field, deep expertise in ionizing radiation dosimetry, Monte-Carlo simulation methods, and proficiency in scientific programming are essential qualifications for this impactful position.

Completed University Degree (Master/Diploma) with a Ph.D. in Experimental Physics, Medical Physics, or comparable field

Experience

  • Completed Ph.D. or comparable experience in Experimental Physics or Medical Physics

  • Professional experience in metrological services and type testing (e.g., according to MessEG)
  • Experience in acquiring third-party funding or active participation in drafting research proposals (Advantageous)
  • Experience in the scientific guidance and supervision of staff
