Job Summary
This critical role involves securing the internal IT landscape for the North Rhine-Westphalia Police Service, focusing specifically on central security infrastructure. Day-to-day responsibilities include the installation, administration, maintenance, and ongoing development of security-relevant systems, particularly Firewall, Proxy, and DNS infrastructures. The specialist will also contribute to the conceptual design and planning of future security requirements, perform qualified technical problem analysis, and ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems. Key qualifications include a university degree in IT Security or a related field, or relevant professional training combined with significant professional experience. The ideal candidate brings multi-year practical experience with network analysis tools like Wireshark, deep knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP), and familiarity with both Linux and Windows operating systems. Required Skills
Education
Completed university degree (Bachelor or equivalent) in IT Security, Computer Science, Communication/Information Technology, or a comparable field; OR completed vocational training plus certified technician qualification; OR completed vocational training in IT/Communication Technology.
Experience
- At least three years of relevant professional experience (if qualifying via vocational training route)
- Multi-year practical experience with Proxy, Firewall, and DNS infrastructures (Desirable)
- Practical experience with networking (Routing, Bridge, Subnetting) (Desirable)
- Practical experience in network analysis using Wireshark (Desirable)
- Practical experience in troubleshooting web- and browser-based applications (Desirable)
- Practical experience with Linux and Windows operating systems (Client/Server) (Desirable)
- Initial practical experience in project management (Desirable)

- Willingness to participate in on-call duty; Class B driver's license required; Willingness to undergo an expanded security clearance (SÜ 2); Residency in Germany or an EU member state for at least five years is required for security clearance.
