Job Summary

This position offers a unique opportunity for a Doctoral or Postdoctoral Researcher to contribute significantly to global vegetation and biome modelling within the TERRA excellence cluster, focusing on the future of C4 grasslands. The role involves further developing the Eco-Evolutionary Optimality (EEO)-based P model for photosynthesis within the LPJ-GUESS Dynamic Global Vegetation Model. Day-to-day tasks include testing the model against current observations and past dynamic reconstructions, collaborating with geologists and climate modellers to infer past C3/C4 transitions, and using the model to predict future biome shifts under CMIP6 climate projections. The successful candidate must possess a Master's or PhD in a related field, strong programming skills (C++, C, or Fortran), expertise in data analysis and statistics, and experience in ecological or environmental modelling. This fixed-term contract until September 2029 is based in Frankfurt, offering a dynamic research environment and the chance to publish high-impact scientific papers.
