Job Summary

This critical role involves serving as the Technical Lead responsible for the operation, maintenance, and strategic development of the entire technological and measurement infrastructure within the High-Frequency Systems department at the University of Wuppertal. The incumbent will ensure continuous, safe operation, including managing DFG equipment centers and large-scale instruments like laser-based optoelectronic testers and 6G laboratory equipment (AWGs, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers). Key responsibilities include overseeing structural and technical functionality, diagnosing complex operational faults, managing construction projects, and organizing installations and repairs of specialized laboratory systems (electronics, vacuum, compressed air, climate control). The position also requires developing custom software solutions using C++, Python, and LabVIEW for controlling lab equipment, managing chip-packaging processes (wire bonding, PCB design), and acting as the Safety Officer, providing mandatory safety training in both German and English.

Required Skills

Education

Completed technical university degree (FH Diploma or Bachelor) in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related disciplines OR Completed vocational training as an Industrial Mechanic, Mechatronics Technician, or similar, with further qualification to Master or Technician level.

Experience

  • At least three years of practical experience in the advertised field of responsibility (required for E 12 TV-L classification)
  • Professional experience in electronics, development, and repair of electronic circuits
  • Experience with compressed air/vacuum technology
  • Experience in cleanroom technology (filters, gas supply, climate control, electrics)
  • Experience in workplace safety concerning chemical, electrical, and laser hazards (ArbSchG, ArbStättV, BetrSichV, GefStoffV)
