Job Summary

This is a unique opportunity to join a three-year, federally and state-funded qualification program aimed at training certified Peatland Specialists (Moorspezialisten) at the Master's level, actively contributing to climate protection in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Starting August 1, 2026, participants will rotate through three different deployment sites, gaining essential practical experience in the planning, approval, implementation, and evaluation of peatland climate protection projects. The program integrates hands-on work with rigorous theoretical and methodological training, including interdisciplinary courses organized by the University of Greifswald. Successful candidates must hold a Master's degree in a relevant natural or environmental science field (such as Biology, Hydrology, or Environmental Engineering) and demonstrate C1 German proficiency. This program is ideal for highly motivated individuals seeking to acquire specialized interdisciplinary knowledge, apply it practically, and potentially prepare for future leadership roles in the field of nature conservation and climate action, culminating in the recognized 'Peatland Specialist' certificate.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree from a university or technical college in a natural or environmental science field (e.g., Biology, Landscape Ecology, Nature Conservation, Geography, Agricultural or Forestry Sciences, Hydrology, Water Engineering, Water Management, Environmental Engineering) or comparable qualification. Certification as 'Peatland Specialist' (acquired upon successful completion of the program).

Experience

  • Professional experience in planning, approval, implementation, or evaluation of climate protection projects (implied by tasks)
  • Initial professional or voluntary engagement or internship in climate protection and/or peatland protection (desirable)
  • Experience with self-organization and independent acquisition of complex content (desirable)

  • Driver's license Class B required. Willingness to drive service vehicles. Willingness to undertake business trips (for courses and deployment site activities). High flexibility and resilience, especially regarding business trips and potential fieldwork. The position is fixed-term until July 31, 2029.
