Job Summary

This role involves providing crucial technical and curatorial support for a natural history collection, specifically focusing on Diptera (flies and mosquitoes). The successful candidate will be responsible for the meticulous care, preservation, and management of both wet and dry insect specimens, including pest control and the creation of new insect preparations. A significant part of the role includes the digitization of collections, data entry into databases, and managing research loans. The position also requires supporting research projects, assisting visiting scientists and students, and contributing to public outreach and educational activities. Required Skills

Education

State-recognized Biological-Technical Assistant (BTA) qualification or equivalent proven training and abilities

Experience

  • Experience in natural history insect collections - Desirable
  • Experience with conservational and preparational techniques - Desirable
  • Basic knowledge of systematics for at least one relevant insect group (preferably Diptera)
  • Preparation experience
