Job Summary

The GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research, a leading particle accelerator facility, is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the Clinical Radiobiology working group, supporting research into ultra-high dose rate radiotherapy (FLASH). Starting in April 2026, this role involves designing, executing, and analyzing preclinical studies focused on comparing different irradiation modalities and their biological mechanisms concerning tumor treatment and normal tissue sparing. The ideal candidate holds a PhD in Biology or a related field, possesses a FELASA B certification (or equivalent), and has a proven publication record in radiobiology and practical experience with in-vivo models (mice/rats). Responsibilities also include collaborating with multidisciplinary teams of biologists, physicists, and engineers, ensuring compliance with animal welfare regulations, and mentoring students. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to world-class science within the international FAIR project, requiring strong organizational skills and fluency in English.

Required Skills

Education

Doctorate (PhD) in Biology, Biomedicine, or a related field, ideally focusing on in-vivo models or radiotherapy research; Completed course in laboratory animal science (FELASA B or equivalent)

Experience

  • Professional experience and publication record in radiobiology
  • Solid practical experience working with mice and/or rats
  • Experience in student supervision (Bachelor, Master, or PhD level)
