Job Summary

This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research, a world-leading particle accelerator facility in Darmstadt. As an Electrical Engineer within the 'Nuclear Astrophysics' department, you will collaborate closely with scientists to develop and operate custom instrumentation and measurement electronics for high-level physical experiments. Your day-to-day will involve providing technical consultancy during the planning and construction phases of experimental setups, managing measurement and control technology, and acting as a primary technical contact for electrical safety. You will also be responsible for creating risk assessments for laboratories and experimental sites. This position is ideal for a proactive professional who enjoys a variety of technical challenges and wants to contribute their own ideas to a prestigious international research environment currently expanding through the global FAIR project.

Required Skills

Education

University degree (University or University of Applied Sciences) in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent field.

Experience

  • Professional experience in developing and operating measurement electronics for physical experiments
  • Experience in applying VDE standards and electrical safety regulations
  • Experience in measurement, control, and regulation technology is preferred
  • Experience in self-organized work and technical project planning

Additional

  • Must be qualified to act as an 'Elektrofachkraft' (EFK - Skilled Electrician) and serve as a contact person for 'Elektrotechnisch unterwiesene Personen' (EUP - Electrically Instructed Persons). Permanent residency or work permit for Germany required as the role is based in Darmstadt.
